Yesterday, Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) ordered four entities operating under the KuCoin brand to immediately cease all virtual asset activities in the emirate. The reason: no license under Dubai Law No. (4) of 2022.

VARA's statement was unambiguous — KuCoin may have been serving Dubai residents while misrepresenting its licensing status. The regulator warned that engaging with non-compliant entities exposes users to financial risk and potential legal consequences.

This follows a separate action by Austria's FMA restricting KuCoin's EU subsidiary — ironically, a firm that had obtained a MiCA permit, but subsequently fell short on required compliance personnel.

Two enforcement actions in two jurisdictions within days. The message to the industry is clear: holding a license is not enough. Maintaining it requires substance — qualified staff, documented processes, and ongoing regulatory engagement.

This is precisely the gap that COMPLaiNCE is built to close, whether you are entering Dubai, navigating MiCA, or expanding across multiple jurisdictions simultaneously.
